Dr. Julie Newell of Southern Polytechnic State University:
I've already recommended the handbook to our on-campus WebCT support person. Mine is full of post-it flags for things I want to try — the quiz section just happened to be the part I REALLY needed at the moment!
I'm sure the handbook is going to be invaluable on your campus, but never forget that you have a wealth of resources that many of the other USG campuses lack. For some of us, the handbook represents resources to which we would have access in absolutely no other way. We just don't have the support staff and infrastructure you have. My on-campus person is great, but he's one person and he's learning WebCT as he goes, too.

Before I got the book I wondered, what makes this book "The Ultimate"? Well it's a book for course designers, but it's so much more than a how-to book. The first half the book is devoted to aspects of instructional design, to what makes a *good* online course, and to course planning using the authors' unique storyboarding technique . Then there's the "surprise ending" -- a section on "What do I do after I create my course?", including semester checklists, course evaluation and maintenance strategies. In between those two excellent sections, there are the usual how-tos for using WebCT, plus more.
The book is chock full of those useful tidbits, tips and tricks one only learns from using the tools extensively. Having the book is like having an experienced course design mentor colleague sitting beside me as I work. I'd say there's something useful in it for course designers and instructors at all levels of WebCT experience, and most especially for those new to online instruction and/or to WebCT.
